Tom Sawyer on Ransoming

"Ransomed? What's that?"

"I don't know. But that's what they do. I've seen it in books; and so of course that's what we've
got to do."

"But how can we do it if we don't know what it is?"

"Why, blame it all, we've GOT to do it. Don't I tell you it's in the books? Do you want to go to doing
different from what's in the books, and get things all muddled up?"

"Oh, that's all very fine to SAY, Tom Sawyer, but how in the nation are these fellows going to be
ransomed if we don't know how to do it to them? -- that's the thing I want to get at. Now, what do you reckon it is?"

"Well, I don't know. But per'aps if we keep them till they're ransomed, it means that we keep them till
they're dead. "

"Now, that's something LIKE. That'll answer.  Why couldn't you said that before? We'll keep them
till they're ransomed to death; and a bothersome lot they'll be, too -- eating up everything, and always
trying to get loose."

"How you talk, Ben Rogers. How can they get loose when there's a guard over them, ready to shoot
them down if they move a peg?"

"A guard! Well, that IS good. So somebody's got to set up all night and never get any sleep, just so
as to watch them. I think that's foolishness. Why can't a body take a club and ransom them as soon as
they get here?"

"Because it ain't in the books so -- that's why.  Now, Ben Rogers, do you want to do things regular,
or don't you? -- that's the idea. Don't you reckon that the people that made the books knows what's the
correct thing to do? Do you reckon YOU can learn 'em anything? Not by a good deal. No, sir, we'll
just go on and ransom them in the regular way."

"All right. I don't mind; but I say it's a fool way, anyhow. Say, do we kill the women, too?"

"Well, Ben Rogers, if I was as ignorant as you I wouldn't let on. Kill the women? No; nobody ever
saw anything in the books like that. You fetch them to the cave, and you're always as polite as pie to them; and by and by they fall in love with you, and never want to go home any more."

"Well, if that's the way I'm agreed, but I don't take no stock in it. Mighty soon we'll have the cave
so cluttered up with women, and fellows waiting to be ransomed, that there won't be no place for the robbers. But go ahead, I ain't got nothing to say."

Actor Bio - Anna Therese Lynn- Josephine Pickering

Character Stats

Name: Josephine Pickering
Profession: Lady's Maid
Quote: “Miss, how am I going to accompany you?!  I was not trained to become a foot soldier.  I’m sure I would die if I had to walk!  What am I to do?  Oh!  Please reconsider, stomping horses are very frightful!” (Typical Josephine hysteria, she tends to talk in exclamation points).

Actor Stats

Name: Anna Therese Lynn
School: High School
Movie Jobs: Actor, Scriptwriter, Costume Designer, Part-Time Boom Mike Operator, Part-Time Hair and Make-up Artist
Interests: Acting, Sewing, Art, Horseback Riding, Music, Writing
What Anna Thinks About Her Character: "Josephine is high strung and very hysterical.  She's also very temperamental when it comes to "protecting" Molly.   She was an interesting character to play.  My favorite part about acting Josephine was pretending to get mad at Eliza.  I also liked being disdainful to Bartholomew and Wallace.  One of the most difficult things to do was to act flustered when my lines weren't all the way memorized."
Acting History:  Anna has acted in many home movies before, as well as an advertisement for Harvest Sun Homes (a real estate company and one of the producers of Ransomed).  She also was in HPA's theater productions of The Sound of Music, Suessical, Brigadoon, and is currently rehearsing for The Wizard of Oz.  She has attended a film camp at Compass Film Academy.
Favorite Subject(s) in School: History, Science, Fine Arts
A Few Things Anna Liked About Being in the Movie:  The fellowship among the cast/crew and making the costumes.
Anna's Favorite Color(s): Purple and Blue.

The Last Day of Filming

The "siblings" Molly and Leopold

Fafika
We had our last official day of filming today.  It's rather odd to have no more days of shooting ahead of us (just days and days and days of editing!)  The cast, though, decided to drag out the filming as much as they could, I think, for we got our record of the most takes (47!) today.  Besides a few camera issues and a few (okay, allot!) of giggles on camera, everything went well.
Cast and crew going over various...important...documents
Keep watching the blog, as we are going to be putting up actor and crew bios every week!  Should be interesting as we delve into the deepest, darkest secrets of these people -- like what their favorite kind of cereal is.

Lady Sarah's House

Today we filmed some of the scenes at Lady Sarah's house.  The Benavides' were kind enough to let us film in their beautiful home, which is amazingly decorated and looks great on set.  Everything went well, the acting was great (though we had some bloopers, which were hilarious).

Roma Camp Scene

Today we filmed the scene in the Roma camp.  A lot of folks came to help by being extras.... THANKS!!!  We had a total of 9 extras of all ages.  Everyone did great!  We also had a bunch of people come just to do sets, which was very helpful.  Overall, a good shoot!

one of the tents.

Garden Scenes

The weather was perfect for filming our scenes in the gardens at the English Inn today.  The staff was kind enough to turn the sprinklers off for us so we could get some cool shots down by the river.
(This was helpful since they didn't really have sprinklers in the Georgian Era for some weird reason.  Of course, a history buff will soon inform me that they did indeed have some sort of watering system).
We also got some fun shots by this lovely little pond they had with a bench by it and a fun fish fountain (say that five times fast) in the middle (they did have fountains in the 1800s, though we ended up turning it off).
We also filmed scene 3, which went well (even though a few of the actors did get stepped on by the horse and, strangely, by each other).

Inn Shoot

Today we shot a few scenes at the English Inn.  It went well, the staff was great working with us.  We shot in the Windsor Suite, pictures of which are to the left and below.  (The electric fireplace was awesome for shooting!)  As Molly woke up in the movie, she also got to pretend to sleep in the super-comfortable awesome bed, which she said was heavenly.

Want to be in the movie???

We are looking for
extras
for the movie shoot this Friday (8/12/11).

We need all ages.  Families with a parent or two would be best.  Everyone would need to be at our house at 11am on THIS Friday (8/12/11).  Shooting will go most of the day (could go as late as 9pm).

We will be shooting a scene in a gypsy camp.  Basically all extras would just be hanging around the camp, not saying anything - just acting like gypsies (no creepy gypsy rituals, though).  If anyone plays an instrument (like violin, viola, guitar, flute, or dulcimer), we would like to know as we might have a gypsy or two playing an instrument and/or singing.

If you (and/or your family) are interested in doing this, please contact us ASAP at epicsummermovie@gmail.com (we want to work on story boards Wednesday night and Thursday, so we will need the  "extras cast list" finalized before then).

Everyone who comes will need to bring:
    Sack lunch and dinner
    Snacks
    Water bottles
Any gypsy-like clothing you have (scarves, skirts, shawls, shirts, pants, etc)
Please do not be offended if we end up not using your clothing.
When filming, meeting, etc. we would like people to wear modest clothing.   Please nothing that shows thighs, cleavage, or belly; this would include any non-gypsy clothes you may wear upon arrival or departure (also nothing extremely tight or with obscene words/pictures).
Any gypsy-like jewelry and/or trinkets you may have (rugs, necklaces, earrings, BANGLES, belts, odd knick-knacks, candles, old-fashioned fake weapons, etc).

Filming "On Location" at the English Inn!

We are blessed to be able to film the Inn scenes at the beautiful English Inn located just outside of Eaton Rapids.  They have been so gracious to work with us.  On Tuesday we will film indoors on the staircase and in one of their lovely B&B rooms.  Then, on Wednesday we will film out back in their beautiful gardens.  THANKS again to the English Inn for supporting this youth project.  You can show your support to them by checking out the English Inn's Website or their FB page.

Battle Scene

We filmed the Battle Scene today.  Very fun and exhausting!  You never think of all the blocking and takes (and takes, and takes, and takes!) that go into even a short battle scene while you're sitting watching a movie.

A Bloody Awesome Take!

Well, today we learned how to make Molly look bloody, and as one cast member said, she looks "bloody awesome"!

Thank you God for the rain and fog, which helped make this scene even cooler!  (And for holding off the severe thunderstorm until we were done filming).

Bruises and Cuts.

We filmed a very intense scene today, and found out how to make awesome looking bruises and cuts.  We can now say that we have poured out our blood, sweat and tears...and filmed it!

This tree on the left was transformed into an amazing set with an intense life-or-death situation.
